Silt is situated between Glenwood Springs and Rifle on the I-70 and Colorado River Corridor.  Nestled at an elevation of 5,456 feet, this hometown community has a population of approximately 2,887. The first settlers to the area was the Ute Indians who lived along the banks of what they called Thunder River known today as the Colorado River.   Silt was named for the fine soil found in the area. 

So many opportunities are in Silt's backyard.  Harvey Gap is a 160-acre lake that is ideal for windsurfing, swimming, or fishing.  The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, crappie, catfish, and small-mouth bass.  Silt offers numerous activities and is located just minutes from the White River National Forest, one of the top five forest nationwide, it offeres places to camp, hike, picnic, snowmobile, fish, cross-country ski and to spot wildlife such as elk, mule deer, mountain lions, black bears, coyotes, foxes, wild turkeys, and pheasants.
